PARIS – November 10, 2010: Peugeot’s latest generation electric vehicle, the Peugeot i0n has won the 2010 Grünes Lenkrad ("Green Steering Wheel") award in Germany.

The Peugeot i0n was chosen over twenty other low emission vehicles, short listed for their low environmental impact, and makes it the third award the car has won in Germany this year.

The Grünes Lenkrad, introduced in 2007, is dedicated to environmental initiatives. It forms part of the prestigious Goldenes Lenkrad (‘Golden Steering Wheel’) motoring honours that have been awarded for 34 years by Germany’s Axel Springer press organisation. This latest award follows on from the Öko Globe and eCar Tec awards presented earlier this year.

The shortlist for the Green Steering Wheel award is compiled with votes from readers of Auto Bild, sister magazine to the UK’s Auto Express, and Bild am Sonntag, the Sunday edition of the best-selling newspaper in Europe. Readers chose vehicles, concepts and technologies that stand out for their potential to reduce the car’s environmental footprint.

An international jury of automobile and environmental experts, sponsored by the Federal Environment Minister, then chose the winner from the five finalists, settling on the Peugeot iOn for 2010.

The trophy was presented to Jean-Marc Gales, Vice President, Brands PSA Peugeot Citroën: "We are very proud to have won the Grünes Lenkrad, which recognises Peugeot’s expertise and commitment to developing automotive emission reduction technology. The Diesel Particulate Filter (FAP) introduced in 2000, the all electric Peugeot i0n this year and Hybrid4 Diesel Hybrid technology, a world first when it is launched next year are all examples of this commitment.

On sale in the UK from January 2011 the Peugeot iOn is the first new generation electric vehicle launched in Europe. It has a range of 93 miles and due to its length of 3.48m is easy to drive and has high comfort and safety standards.
