VACC Issues for the New Victorian Government
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – November 30, 2010: VACC, which represents
5,000 small businesses in Victoria, congratulates the Liberal/National
Coalition on the State election result and forming a new Victorian
Government.
“VACC looks forward to working with Ted Baillieu and the Coalition
Government,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.
“Prior to the Election, VACC called for a range of issues to be
addressed: we are calling on the new Coalition Government to take action on
these very same issues,” Mr Purchase said.
VACC calls on the new Victorian Government to take the following
actions:
Introduce a six month vehicle ‘rego’ payment
option; Continue to reduce payroll tax; Further reduce the impact
of land tax on business; Repeal the extra stamp duty on luxury
vehicles; Prevent large businesses from unfairly treating small
businesses; Increase funding for the Victorian Small Business
Commissioner; Provide further financial assistance to address the
industry’s skills shortage; Convene a high level conference to
discuss access to technical vehicle information; Incorporate
VACC’s Vehicle Safety Campaign into the ‘Arrive Alive’
strategy; Mandate that all imported automotive parts comply with
Australian standards; Compel insurance companies to provide real choice
of vehicle repairer; Outlaw the practice of selling a vehicle from, for
example, a roadside or outside a pub; Repeal the Car Parking Levy (the
tax paid by Melbourne CBD car park owners and employers), reduce CBD
congestion and improve transport infrastructure; Fast track the
expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“VACC calls on the new Victorian Government to consult with the
automotive industry and to take action on these issues,” Mr Purchase
said.
