MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – January 17, 2011: A high performance BMW M3 Convertible was among a number of racing thoroughbreds auctioned over the weekend at both the Magic Millions raceday and the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, to raise funds for Queensland’s flood victims.

More than $900,000 was raised for the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund with the surprise star of the auction being a BMW M3 Convertible, donated by the event’s major sponsor BMW Group Australia. Melbourne-based horse owners Lloyd and Nick Williams purchased the vehicle for $200,000.

The iconic BMW M3 is one of the most successful production performance cars in racing history. The open-top BMW M3 Convertible features a light-weight design folding hard-top roof and sits atop BMW’s high-performance M3 model range.

BMW Group Australia Acting Managing Director, Peter Buchauer said the generosity of businesses and individuals in responding to the Queensland flood crisis has been extraordinary.

“We all face a long and tough road ahead in rebuilding our homes, our businesses and the local community,” said Mr Buchauer.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer at least some help in alleviating the suffering of Queensland’s disaster victims and we thank all those who took part in the charity auction for their support and generosity,” he said
