GOTHENBERG, Sweden--March 7, 2011: Today March 7, the Håkan Frisinger Foundation for Transportation Research will be presenting its scholarship for 2010 to Bengt Johansson, professor at the Lund Institute of Technology. The scholarship, worth SEK 250,000, will be awarded to Bengt Johansson for his internationally successful and practically important research concerning combustion engines.

Bengt Johansson is a Professor at the Combustion Engines Department at the Lund Institute of Technology. In his research, he focuses primarily on the area of Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI). The HCCI technology leads to a higher degree of efficiency, which, combined with new fuel, is a key component in the development of freight transportation with low environmental and climate impact.

His research financing and collaborative projects encompass virtually all major Swedish, European, North American and Japanese automotive companies and engine manufacturers.

The nomination as a recipient of the Frisinger scholarship was made by Chalmers University of Technology in accordance with an agreement between Chalmers and Volvo's Research and Education Foundation (VREF). Decisions about the scholarship are made by the Board of VREF.

The award was presented by the Håkan Frisinger Foundation at a ceremony held at AB Volvo on March 7, 2011. Håkan Frisinger was CEO of Volvo between 1983 and 1987 and Chairman of the Board from 1997 to 1999.
