VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – March 9, 2011: Nissan Motor Co (Australia) and Nissan Financial Services (Australia) will donate the use of up to 200 Nissan vehicles to help with the Queensland rebuilding process in the wake of the devastation wrought by the floods and Cyclone Yasi, the companies announced today.

The vehicles will be managed by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, which will determine which organisations will be able to make best use of them over the coming months. Recipient organisations are expected to include The Red Cross, Salvation Army, Lifeline and other associated rural community cleanup and relief agencies.

The Nissan Dealer Network in Queensland will deliver the vehicles to relevant authorities and non-government entities.

The fleet will include Nissan X-TRAIL, Nissan Navara, Nissan Pathfinder, and Nissan Patrol all-wheel drive vehicles.

The Nissan donation, believed to be the largest of its kind to help with the reconstruction process, is aimed at speeding the rebuilding of communities, and helping return them to self-reliance as soon as possible.

The Nissan donation follows in the wheel tracks of a similar contribution to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal in 2009.

“Nissan is committed to doing what ever it can to help get communities back on their feet,” said Nissan Motor Co (Australia) CEO Dan Thompson.

“Through our Queensland dealer network we have a very real understanding of the hardships that have been suffered by all the people affected by the flooding and Cyclone Yasi, and we wanted to play a tangible role in the reconstruction of these devastated communities.

“By donating the use of these 200 vehicles to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, we are helping put Queenslanders on the road to recovery,” Thompson said.
