Elegance, Efficiency And Practicality - The Audi A7 Sportback Has Arrived In Australia

ZETLAND, AUSTRALIA – March 17, 2011: With the launch of the all-new A7 Sportback in Australia, Audi has entered a new segment. The A7 Sportback breaks new ground in design with flowing, athletic, and elegant styling that combines the beauty and appeal of a coupe with comfort and practicality of a sedan.

But with four doors and four individual seats, there is no compromise on practicality with ample room for driver and passengers. Headroom is generous for all occupants and comfort is second to none.

The dynamic exterior design also carries over into the interior, where Audi has further cemented its place as a leader in design. The most striking aspect is the ‘wrap-around’ – a horizontal line encircling the driver and front passenger. This arc extends from the driver’s side across the instrument panel and into the passenger’s door.

The A7 Sportback is also brimming with advanced driver-assist systems. An optimised MMI operating system is standard, including an optional head-up display that projects vital information onto the windshield, meaning the driver never has to remove their eyes from the road ahead. The intuitive touch-screen MMI system is a standard feature and can be used to perform numerous functions, including the hard-drive based navigation system, which is also standard.

The Audi A7 Sportback will be offered with two V6 engines in Australia. The first is a powerful yet incredibly efficient V6 TDI engine, which produces 180kW and 500Nm, catapulting the A7 Sportback from 0-100km/h in just 6.5 seconds, yet consuming just 6.0 litres per 100km.

The second V6 is the 3.0 TFSI petrol engine. Employing supercharging technology, this world-class engine develops 220kW and 440Nm, endowing the A7 Sportback with a 0-100km/h sprint time of only 5.6 seconds – firmly in sportscar territory.

Both engines offer thermal management, stop-start technology and energy recovery.

Sophisticated construction is the cornerstone of every Audi vehicle and the A7 Sportback is no exception. The hybrid-construction chassis consists of approximately 30% aluminium, which reduces weight compared to an allsteel chassis, improves handling, braking and increases fuel efficiency. The control arms of the A7 Sportback are also made from lightweight aluminium.

All Australian-specified A7 Sportbacks will be combined with Audi’s sevenspeed S tronic transmission and acclaimed quattro all-wheel drive. This drive system is state-of-the-art, and features a crown-gear centre differential (debuted on the Audi RS 5) and advanced torque vectoring, ensuring power is distributed in the blink of an eye to maximise stability, traction and agility.
