CIRENCESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – April 27, 2011: Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is bucking the national trend and has announced that its Quarter One sales are up more than 7% compared to Quarter One 2010, in sharp contrast to the 13% decline in the total UK vehicle market.1

Quarter One also saw a 64% increase in the UK pick-up market compared to 2010, which has been a significant contributor to Mitsubishi’s early 2011 success. Continued dominance of the segment has seen the L200 retain its pole position in the retail sector with a 27.6% market share. This placed the L200 8.6% ahead of the Nissan Navara and 14.8% ahead of the Toyota Hilux.

Other vehicles in Mitsubishi’s range, all with strong environmental credentials under the marque’s new “Intelligent Motion” sub-brand, including the re-engineered Shogun; Outlander crossover; and new family-member the ASX compact crossover are also out-selling expectations, all contributing to a great start to 2011.

But, has this sales success been at the expense of dealer profitability? Certainly not. Mitsubishi Motors in the UK’s Managing Director, Lance Bradley emphatically states:

“Whilst our sales have increased, we have been careful to ensure this has not been at the expense of dealer profitability. Our latest figures from both 2010 and Quarter One 2011 show that dealer profitability is at its highest level in the history of the company. To increase profitability as well as sales volume is a great success, which I am sure is part of the reason why we are getting more and more dealers apply for the UK franchise.”
