TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – May 10, 2011: The global Honda family has joined together to raise funds for the relief and recovery efforts for Japan and its people, following the earthquake and tsunami in March this year.

Honda Motor Co. in Japan pledged JPY300 million (around AUD3.4 million) and 1,000 generators immediately following the earthquake.

American Honda recently sponsored a week-long campaign to raise funds for Japan through BroadCause, a platform for social engagement around cause-based initiatives. American Honda established a microsite to channel donations to the American Red Cross appeal, assisted by BroadCause through Facebook, Twitter and Experience Project stories.

In Australia, Honda Associates were encouraged to donate through the Japan and Pacific Disaster Appeal run by the Australian Red Cross. Associates raised over $2,300.

“We’ve seen an incredible show of support and generosity from the extended Honda family,” said Steve Center, Vice President of National Marketing Operations for American Honda. “We are grateful to our Associates, customers, suppliers and fans for all the help they have pledged thus far.”

Honda Australia’s Senior Director, Mr. Lindsay Smalley, said: “It is really encouraging to see the Honda family and Australians help our fellow Associates and the Japanese people. We all hope that Japan will recover as quickly as possible from this devastating natural disaster.”
