SYDNEY – June 14, 2011: The winners of VACC’s Target 2030 ‘Design the car of the future’ competition will have their entries exhibited at this year’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS).

The Show, from July 1 – July 10 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre (MEC), is expected to attract large crowds. The winning entries will be seen by thousands of people, including CEO’s and Head Designers of the world’s top manufacturers, plus representatives of component suppliers, automotive industry groups and the media.

“Target 2030 winners receive cash prizes for themselves and their school, college or University. Winners of the Model and Design categories win $3,000 and winners of the Essay category win $500. But to be on display at the Australian International Motor Show is the greatest prize of all,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.

“Employers, Universities and schools tell us that they look for students who have participated in Target 2030, because it proves they have a passion for automotive design. An exhibit at the Show also puts a student ‘in the shop window’, which can lead to some exciting employment opportunities,” Mr Purchase said.

Judging, and the Awards Ceremony, for this year’s Target 2030 Competition will be on Saturday July 2, at MEC. VACC is pleased to confirm that the Judging Panel will once again be made up of Richard Ferlazzo (GM Holden Design, Chief Designer), Neil McDonald (Ford Motor Co Australia, Brand Communications Manager) and Brian Tanti (CEO, AutoHorizon Foundation).

“VACC reminds all secondary and tertiary design students and teachers that the deadline for registration is June 17. Each year we are blown away by the caliber of entries and this year will be no exception. We look forward to seeing the models, designs and essays on July 2, and to exhibiting the winning entries, for the entire world to see, at the Australian International Motor Show,” Mr Purchase said.
