Washington DC August 8, 2011; The AIADA newsletter reported that last week, Consumer Report's rankings called the redesigned 2012 Honda Civic "mediocre" and dropped it from CR's "recommended" status.

The magazine rated it second from the bottom in the September issue's listing of all the cars in the compact segment.

Honda is planning a new marketing campaign this fall to relaunch the car. The original spring launch – and the supply of new Civics to sell – were interrupted by the Japan quake. North American production of the Civic is just beginning to come back.

USA Today is condensing some of the Civic’s other reviews and finds that it has received positive coverage.

Auto Remarketing reports that dealer Brian Benstock – a Honda and Acura dealer in Queens, N.Y. – indicates he has had “zero complaints” from customers, who are hurriedly snatching 2012 Civics up so fast that “we can’t keep them in stock.”

Honda told the publication that “In virtually every way, the completely redesigned 2012 Civic is a step forward. The new Civic excels in areas that matter to small-car customers, including fuel efficiency, safet, and reliability.”
