OFFENBACH, GERMANY – Oct 31, 2011: The Voodoos are getting ready to put a spell on 15,000 music fans at City Hall, Belfast – and a huge online audience – when they play live as part of the 2011 MTV EMAs next week. Hailing from Ireland, the unsigned five-piece rock band won Hyundai’s online 1+2 Band Contest to open for Snow Patrol and Jason Derulo, attracting exceptional public support and the admiration of the experienced MTV judges.

The band uploaded their track ‘Yesterday’s Future’ to Hyundai’s Facebook app and secured a mass of votes from fans online, making them a leading contender among the almost-450 videos submitted for the top prize. The MTV jury – headed by Albert Schilcher, VP of Music & Music Marketing at MTV Networks International – cited the band’s phenomenal energy and great song-writing skills in awarding the ultimate victory.

As well as the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play such a prestigious gig, their prize also includes the full VIP experience. Throughout the weekend the band will be transported around Belfast in the new Hyundai Veloster sports coupe – the ‘Official Wheels’ of the 2011 MTV EMAs. Before their performance at City Hall, band members will shop with experienced stylists. Michelin-starred dining and access to the ultra-exclusive after-show party will complete the money-can’t-buy package.

The unique 1+2 door configuration of the Hyundai Veloster is the inspiration behind the contest. A neatly integrated rear passenger door provides great coupe styling without the usual coupe compromise on practicality.

The Voodoos’ vocalist, Mark Daly, said, “Words can’t express how excited we are right now! We’re honoured to have this unique opportunity to show what we can do on a world stage – a big thank you to Hyundai and MTV for making all this possible. But most of all we have to thank our amazing loyal fans who really got behind us with their fantastic support.”

Albert Schilcher VP of Music & Music Marketing at MTV Networks International, said “MTV has always prided itself on unearthing and nurturing new music talent and as such we are delighted to offer one of our biggest stages to this exciting new band. We look forward to seeing them perform in front of 15.000 fans at City Hall next week.”

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “With the adrenalin pumping, The Voodoos are sure to put on a fantastic show proving themselves to be deserving winners of our 1+2 Band Contest. Hyundai isdelighted to help share the band’s talent with music fans on the big stage, and we wish them well for their performance.”

The MTV EMAs will be held on Sunday 6th November 2011 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
