SYDNEY – Apr 2, 2012: VACC is pleased to announce that the venue for this year’s Target 2030, Automotive Design Awards, is Federation Square.

The BMW Edge will host the prestigious awards ceremony on Thursday, July 12, 2012 and the Target 2030 models and designs will be exhibited publically in the Atrium and Fracture Gallery from Monday July 9 to Friday July 13, 2012.

“This is a very exciting development for VACC’s Target 2030 Automotive Design Awards. Our aim is to make Target 2030 bigger and better each year and we are delighted to hold this industry recognised occasion at Federation Square,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.

Now in its 7th year, Target 2030 is an annual event, arranged by VACC. Victoria’s secondary and tertiary students are challenged to design the automotive vehicles of the year 2030. There are three categories, model-making, design and essay. The winning students, and their school, college or university, receive cash prizes, totalling $26,000, donated by VACC.

However, Target 2030 is more than just a chance to win money. Target 2030 is an educational program which showcases the talents of Victoria’s young automotive designers. Thousands of local and overseas visitors to Federation Square will view the wonderful designs and recognise the talents of the next generation of Australian automotive designers.

Target 2030 is also an opportunity for students to acquaint themselves with automotive manufacturers and to develop career paths in the automotive industry. Previous secondary student entrants have successfully transitioned from school to university as a result of Target 2030 designs and many tertiary student entrants are now employed by local automotive design departments, thanks largely to their submissions.

“All Victorian secondary and tertiary students are invited to enter Target 2030. It is a very exciting event, with good prizes and now a great venue for the public exhibition of works and the prestigious Automotive Design Awards. Target 2030 is judged by respected members of the automotive industry and it is an opportunity for the next generation of automotive designers to interact with learning institutes and employers. Victoria is the heart of Australia’s automotive industry and Target 2030 has become a key component in this industry’s future,” Mr Purchase said.
