VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – Apr 2, 2012: Nissan Australia has recorded its highest ever sales year since becoming a full importer more than 20 years go.

In the (Japanese) financial year to March 31, Nissan registered a total 69,678 retail sales –an increase of 6.2% on the previous financial year total.

Nissan also sold a total of 8,317 vehicles in March - its fourth consecutive month of sales increases.

The result gives Nissan an overall 6.8% total year market share as it continues its advance towards number one importer status.

The result also ranks Nissan as one of Australia’s fastest growing brands (4th out of 63 marques) with a .45% share point improvement in market share over the year based on preliminary industry figures.

Of particular note was the Nissan Navara’s stellar performance, retailing 21,218 units cementing its place as Australia’s second best-selling utility and repelling several challenges from segment newcomers during the year.

The Nissan Dualis crossover strengthened its mantel as one of the best selling small cars, and a core product for Nissan, finishing the year with 9,428 sales.

And now in its fifth year, Nissan X-TRAIL continues to reach new buyers in the highly competitive Compact SUV segment finding 13,790 new customers in 2011, an improvement of 34% over the previous year.

Nissan’s Executive GM of Sales and Fleet, Ian Moreillon, said the result was testimony to Nissan’s improving product range, stronger brand image and (dealer) network performance.

“With a rich collection of new product in the wings during 2012-13, we can only improve further on what is already a stellar result,” he said.
