WASHINGTON--July 17, 2012: During these summer months, teens are enjoying their freedom from school and spending more time on the roads. With traffic crashes being the leading cause of death for teenagers, GEICO encourages parents to talk with their teens about safe driving habits while they are on summer break.

“It's important for parents to reach out to their teens and talk about the importance of safe driving, especially during the summer months when they are on the roads”

To help start the conservation, parents can visit GEICO's teen driving website, Geico Teen Driving, for the latest information about distracted driving, impaired driving and everyday driving tips.

GEICO also recommends families use the parent-teen driving contract, which is an agreement that holds both teens and their parents accountable for their driving behaviors. This contract can be downloaded and printed from the auto safety library on GEICO's teen driving website.

"It's important for parents to reach out to their teens and talk about the importance of safe driving, especially during the summer months when they are on the roads," said Janice Minshall, GEICO's assistant vice president. "GEICO's teen driving site has a number of resources available to help parents and teens engage in a conversation about safe driving habits."

Teens will appreciate the number of teen driving and crash tests videos available. They can also test their "driving" knowledge by taking the crash facts quiz. This site is mobile-friendly and can be viewed on any smartphone.

All of GEICO's safety materials--including brochures, tip sheets and DVDs--are available online to download and print. Free hard copies can be ordered on the site. For more information on GEICO's teen safe driving program, visit Geico Teen Driving.
