MISSISSAUGA, ON Sept. 13, 2012; Subaru Canada is delighted to announce that two of its 2013 models took home accolades today in the Car Guide's annual Best Buys announcement and presentation. The 2013 Subaru BRZ was named Best New Car of the Year, while the 2013 Subaru Outback edged out 16 other contenders to take home the honour in the Crossovers under $50,000 category.

The 2013 Subaru BRZ, Subaru's brand new rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, debuted in June. The Subaru BRZ focuses on its extremely low centre of gravity, light weight and precision handling, while offering desirable amenities such as standard navigation.

Subaru's 2013 Outback provides crisp car-like handling with the versatility of an SUV. Standard Subaru symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive distinguishes Outback from many crossover competitors, but this adventure-ready SUV alternative also recently underwent an extensive facelift for the 2013 model year. Debuting more modifications than a typical model year change, the 2013 Outback offers revised styling, chassis enhancements to improve ride quality, new amenities and audio capabilities as well as the new EyeSight driver-assist system.

"The Car Guide is the publication of choice for sports car enthusiasts and those considering a new vehicle purchase," said Shiro Ohta, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "This knowledgeable group of eight journalists have pooled their impressions to determine winners and I'm thrilled that our brand new 2013 Subaru BRZ and 2013 Outback rank first among their counterparts."

For 47 years, the Car Guide has been the largest automobile publication in Quebec. No fewer than 95,000 copies of this 672-page tome are printed each year as its technical articles are often used for reference, while test drives put specs into perspective from an impartial standpoint. To better inform its readers, the Guide now also determines and awards winners in several categories. To earn a place among the Best Buys, a car or utility vehicle must be evaluated on strict criteria in the categories of price, styling, fuel consumption, comfort, performance, maintenance costs, daily drivability, reliability and resale value among many others. After independent evaluations take place, an editorial consensus is made to determine category winners.
