Avego Ridesharing Activity Grows 8,825% in BART Strike Chaos

Thousands of additional seats available this morning all across Bay Area -

SAN FRANCISCO--July 3, 2013: Commuters stranded by the BART strike have been turning to carpooling in record numbers as jammed freeways, sky-high parking fines and excessive taxi-style fares have obliterated the day-to-day quality of life of hundreds of thousands of frustrated Bay Area workers.

The resulting explosion in sign-ups to pioneering ridesharing app Avego has resulted in tens of thousands of trip demands now being made by commuters in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A 'heat' map of user activity in the Bay Area, viewable on SF Heat Map enables people searching for rides to see where the Avego ridesharing network can take them.

"People who are new to the concept of real-time ridesharing often wonder how it can work for them. The heat map shows people how carpooling itself can be viewed as a public transport system," said CEO Sean O'Sullivan. "It's astonishing that in a matter of days, Avego has built up a transport network for San Francisco which can carry tens of thousands of people. If the strike goes on for another week, BART won't need to re-open."

Avego has seen Bay Area growth of 8825% in ridesharing activity and an increase of over 4800% in registered schedules of trips available in the past days. Despite the huge growth, more drivers are needed, as much of the ridesharing demand has been created by riders stranded by BART.
