AUTO CENTRAL - January 19, 2014: Katie Spence, writing for MotleyFool.com, published a devastating story today that labels Tesla Motors’ green-car claims as “more fiction than fact.”

According to the story, almost the entire process involved in creating the batteries that the Tesla Model S runs on is harmful to the environment, unhealthy and does nothing to lessen our dependency of foreign sources for energy because it merely swaps our dependency on oil for dependency on lithium.

While most knowledgeable automotive journalists and investigative reporters have been aware of the significant shortcomings related to electric vehicles, the sexy promise of passenger vehicles that seemingly don’t require a liquid or gaseous fuel has blinded many consumers, politicians, media spokespeople, and investors. This blind faith has led to dangerous inaction in adopting real solutions that could truly eliminate our dependence on foreign fuels while also proving to be a boom to our economy.
