DETROIT -- Apr 9, 2015: As the company providing Executive Leadership for the SAE 2015 World Congress & Exhibition in Detroit, Michigan, April 21-23, Honda and its partners are providing a series of brief updates leading up to the event. The following is a blog post from Erik Berkman, executive vice president of Honda North America and general chairman of this year's World Congress.

I know from my years in product development that everyone loves to get the "the inside skinny" on a top-secret project. It puts you in a special place.

So please join me and the team of engineers from Honda R&D Americas at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 in Cobo Center in Detroit to get a cockpit-level view of one the most innovative projects in automotive history … the next generation Acura NSX.

The event is a SAE Detroit Section meeting held within the SAE 2015 World Congress and Exhibition. The Detroit Section meeting is held monthly, to showcase the engineering efforts behind an all-new vehicle. But the section meeting held during World Congress is always a little extra special.

This production version of the NSX actually debuted in Detroit earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show, in fact, in the same building where the 2015 World Congress will be held April 21-23.

At the Detroit Section meeting, the global development leader of the NSX team, chief engineer Ted Klaus, will take you deeper into the into the thinking and efforts of his team to create "a human-centered supercar."

The original NSX was unveiled more than a generation ago, and Ted and his team tapped into the knowledge of that legacy group, engineers who worked with the legendary racer Ayrton Senna, to understand the core values of the first generation NSX.

But Ted and his team had the latitude to do things differently. And they utilized new technologies and materials to create a New Sports Experience for a new generation. The new NSX features a longitudinally mounted twin-turbocharged V-6 engine combined with a 3-motor Sport Hybrid system to deliver a world-class driving experience.

And then there's the "human support cockpit" designed from the driver out to seamlessly integrate beautiful design and supercar performance.

There's a lot more to learn about the why and how of NSX. That's what SAE World Congress attendees will find out.

Come join us on April 22 and get the scoop.
