New module enables faster connected vehicle development

AUBURN HILLS, MI -- April 16, 2015: FEV North America, Inc. (FEV) a leading developer of advanced vehicle systems and powertrain technologies, will exhibit its new Connected Vehicle Gateway Module that enables faster connected vehicle development at the 2015 SAE World Congress, April 21 – 23 at Cobo Center in Detroit. The Gateway Module will be shown in combination with FEV's capabilities in motor controls technology, and its design and mobile app development capabilities.

While the autonomous vehicle seems to be grabbing the headlines, of more impact are the inroads being made to develop the Connected Vehicle by incorporating Bluetooth, WiFi, and other wireless protocols so that they function both seamlessly and flawlessly. Keeping up with the speed of development is a critical challenge. FEV engineers have created the Connected Vehicle Gateway Module that enables faster vehicle development and proof of concept analysis by allowing ECUs, with different communication protocols, to be integrated in a combined system architecture, along with other consumer electronics products. The gateway is used as a "glue module" for both wired and wireless interfaces during OEM platform or proof of concept developments.

The Connected Vehicle Gateway Module enables message translation across differing OEM vehicle networks as well as the wireless protocols of consumer devices. The Gateway will be demonstrated as an enabler for the implementation of convenience and comfort features throughout the vehicle, such as a "smart seat" application that will be featured in the FEV exhibit.
