AJAX, ON, Oct. 27, 2017; The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2017 CAA Road Safety Journalism Award. Stephanie Wallcraft took home the award Wednesday night at the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada awards banquet, in Ajax, Ontario.

The CAA Road Safety Journalism Award, now in its sixth year, draws attention to the importance of public service journalism on road safety, and highlights the excellent work being done in the field. The award has also been held by other well-known automotive journalists such as Jil McIntosh and Nadine Filion.

Wallcraft won the 2017 award for an article that explores an anxiety many of us feel on the highway, driving beside and behind big transport trucks in the winter.

"Many drivers display frustration at being stuck behind a large vehicle and can be tempted into dangerous driving behaviour to get around them," said Ian Jack, CAA managing director of communications and government relations. "Stephanie's story educates the public about the dangers of these aggressive moves and helps the average road user understand the limitations truck drivers have, especially in the treacherous winter months. Her piece was well researched, easy to read and relatable for the average driver."

Greg Wilson received an honorable mention for a piece on senior driving.  Wilson's article touches on an important issue many Canadians face today, and will continue to face over the coming years – maintaining our driving skills as we age.

"Greg's article laid out practical tips for senior drivers, while providing valuable information for everyone. It was a thoughtful piece that reminds us all that, regardless of age, we can always improve our driving skills," said Jack.
