Thanks to all our supporters we will present the second Automotive Heritage Awards this Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s, Plymouth, MI, www.concoursusa.org– Many of you will be there so here are the plans for the day:

PARKING & REGISTRATION

Those who registered for a press credential before the deadline got a parking pass in the mail for the E-Lot next to the show car entrance. Those who arranged a media credential later and those who are our guests will need to park with the rigs at the Northville High School on Six-Mile Road just west of Sheldon. No charge in that lot and the shuttles start at 7AM. [Public parking at Canton High School is $10 and shuttles there don’t begin until 9:30.]

Shuttles will take you to the Inn at St. John’s where you’ll find your way to the show car entrance at Lot E on the southeast side of the hotel. Everyone will pick up their credentials and tickets at the media registration tent near the entrance. Just inside the field turn left to the Brembo Media Hospitality tent.

We’ll have an informal reception beginning at 9AM and start the program at precisely 10AM. We’ll have a colorful, comprehensive press kit with details of the winners at the conclusion of the event in a gift bag hosted by Kiekert.

We recommend early arrival to take full advantage of the privilege of early entry onto the Concours field where cars are being positioned, owners are accessible, the hubbub is electric and the soft morning light perfect for photography.

The Program

The Program will flow much like our inaugural event last year, with a few changes, the most significant is Master of Ceremony. Our friend and colleague, classic and collector car expert, Ed Lucas, will not be able to join us because of a death in the family. Our healing thoughts go out to Ed and Mary Beth. I assured him we’d find a way to manage without him. I guess the MC will be a nice surprise as well.

Automotive Women's Alliance Foundation

The Automotive Women’s Alliance Foundation

The Automotive Women’s Alliance Foundation, one of our original supporters, has created a $2,500 scholarship in the name of the Automotive Heritage Awards. We’ll begin with that presentation to a young woman from the area.

The Future Collectible Vehicle of the Year Award

The National Automotive History Collection at the Detroit Public Library will present their Future Collectible Vehicle of the Year Award to the vehicle they think we’ll see at a show 25 years hence. We’re working on getting that car (what do you think it is?) for display at the Brembo tent. [Hint: it’s one with exceptional performance.]

Concept Vehicle of the Year

Brian Baker, former GM designer and president of the Leland Chapter of the Society of Automotive Historians, will present our AHA Concept Vehicle of the Year. His team of designers narrowly chose the winner.

Automotive Heritage Journalism Awards

Kiekert, the 160-year-old German Auto Supplier is presenting our Automotive Heritage Journalism Awards. Ten categories drew over 70 entries competing to be judged as the “stories best told” regardless of platform. Six earned the top honors that include a Gold Medal and a beautiful trophy designed by Alex Buchan, famous automotive fine art sculptor. Others deemed worthy of recognition win Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals as judged by our distinguished panelists.

The Lifetime Achievement Award

Finally, our most prestigious award, will be presented to the journalist deemed by his peers most worthy of the Automotive Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award. America’s Automotive Trust and the LeMay – America’s Car Museum are supporting this award. The honoree gets a special Buchan-designed trophy. We’ll have on display the larger trophy on a walnut base with all past winners inscribed that will be installed in the LeMay Museum next month.
