Concours Winners Awarded, Labor Day Monday Racing To Run As Scheduled

Sunday in the Park Concours Winners Awarded, Ferraris Of Ralph Lauren & Peter Kalikow Take Best In Show Lime Rock Park's annual Sunday in the Park Concours and Gathering of the Marques, held today during Historic Festival 37, was a stunning display of machinery with more than 800 cars staged along our 1.5 mile track. Among the winners of the judged Concours, two were honored with a Best in Show trophy: Ralph Lauren's 1961 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (Best in Show - Sport) Peter Kalikow's 1958 Ferrari 250 GT PF Cabriolet (Best in Show - Touring) Both cars are pictured above. "Today, we've had a Concours with some extraordinary cars," said Murray Smith, Historic Festival Chairman. "Two fabulous cars were the overall winners of the show. Ralph Lauren's Testa Rossa and an absolutely beautiful Ferrari 250 GT owned by Peter Kalikow. I thought both of those cars really deserved to win." With the chance of scattered rain and storms projected to move into the region later tomorrow afternoon, spectators might experience why there is an art to racing in the rain. Fans of "The Art of Racing in the Rain," the popular novel turned into a movie currently in theaters, might be able to see portions of the novel/film come to life. "I think it's going to be a very interesting day tomorrow with the prospect of rain, but I think it's more exciting to watch these guys in the rain," Historic Festival Chairman Murray Smith said. "I know that NASCAR doesn't run in the rain but sports car drivers like to race in the rain as long as they can see. It makes the skilled driver do much better because the cars slide easier." Nine race groups will race between 9:00a and 12:40p and then again after lunch from 1:45p - 5:25p.
