America's Most Popular VW Makes Small Changes

If your product is popular and selling well, there's no need for big changes. Thus Volkswagen made only slight modifications to the 2022 edition of the Tiguan. The company has always had a sensible approach to vehicles. No reason to sport-ify or add glitz.

The 184-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will never be first off the line, but it doesn't need that when it delivers a quiet comfortable ride with a smooth as silk 8-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic front wheel drive. Couple that with positive and secure handling and you've got a comfy cruiser. The fuel economy is reasonable, in the 25 mpg range. The suspension in front are strut-type with lower control arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers, anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is multilink with coil springs, telescopic dampers, and anti-roll bar.

The front row seats abound in soft leather and are heated, adjustable, and provide ergonomics that are well thought out.

The second row won applause from tall and lanky passengers who also appreciated the leg room and head room as well as having their very own USB chargers. Like the front seats, comfort and style is simple, conservative, and practical.

The front-wheel-drive Tiguan SE comes with a third-row seat, perfect for pre-teens who really don't want to hear your music and would rather bury themselves in their cell phones.

Volkswagen's IQ Drive suite of driver aids includes lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and rear cross-traffic alert. Travel Assist -- VW's version of adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane centering. Other aids include:
