Executive Changes At Hyundai

SEOUL, July 6, 2023 – Hyundai Motor Company today announced several new positions and responsibilities as part of a global operations expansion to better align functional areas across the Americas, Europe and the India/Middle East/Africa regions, and enhance performance under the direction of José Muñoz, president and global chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Company. The following additions and changes were effective July 1, 2023.

“Building a strong executive leadership team to oversee global operations is pivotal to ensuring the international success of Hyundai and Genesis,” said Muñoz. “These individuals have a long tenure within our organization, and we are excited for them to expand their responsibilities to further cultivate our global brand growth.”


Yeongho (Young) Lee
Senior Vice President, Global Operations Division, Hyundai Motor Company

Lee has worked at Hyundai Motor North America since 2016 as senior vice president of strategy and planning. He has been pivotal in creating and supporting the global COO office and will now serve as a key executive of the global operations division to support the global COO office from Hyundai Motor Company in Seoul.


Euisung (Ernie) Kim
Senior Vice President, Global Manufacturing, Hyundai Motor Company
President and CEO, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama

Kim currently serves as the president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and oversees the production and assembly of all Hyundai and Genesis models in the United States including Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Sante Fe Hybrid, Tucson, Elantra, Electrified GV70 and GV70 ICE. In his new role, Kim expands his level of responsibility with the addition of global manufacturing management for the global COO’s production plants outside of Korea. 


Robert Grafton
Vice President, Global Dealer Network Development, Hyundai Motor Company

Grafton, currently the vice president of dealer development at Hyundai Motor America will have his responsibilities expanded and will become part of the global COO office. In his new role as vice president of global dealer network development, Grafton will be responsible for managing and implementing the dealer network strategy in the global COO regions by optimizing retail representation and improving dealer relations on a global scale. He will also maintain his responsibilities for U.S. dealer network development.  


Sean Gilpin
Vice President, Global Sales Marketing, Hyundai Motor Company

Gilpin joins the Hyundai Motor Company global COO office from INNOCEAN Worldwide America’s, Hyundai’s creative marketing partner agency, where he served as the chief business officer. As vice president of global sales marketing, Gilpin will lead the review and analysis of marketing operations, spend, efficiency and effectiveness of regional marketing operations.

Grafton, Kim and Gilpin will join the existing Hyundai Motor Company global COO office executive team that includes global product line management, global product director office, profit optimization, and strategy and governance functions.
