Pennzoil Pagan Gets Engine from Nissan Infiniti

01/27/97

Pennzoil Pagan Takes Delivery of Race Engine

The Pennzoil Pagan team took delivery of a new Nissan Indy Infiniti
engine at 4:28 p.m. Friday and began the 4-hour process of installing
it in the Dallara chassis. The team plans to participate in a
30-minute practice session on Saturday morning, only hours before the
Indy Racing League's Walt Disney World 200.

Driver Roberto Guerrero and Pagan crew members arrived at the
racetrack on Monday. The team logged about 60 laps on Tuesday and
Wednesday until an external oil system problem ended the testing. The
team immediately ordered a second engine from its engine builder Ed
Pink's shop in California who flew the engine to Orlando.

The team has not practiced the car since official practice began at
the Walt Disney World track on Thursday. Guerrero did not attempt a
qualifying run on Friday and will start at the back of the 17-car
field.

Roberto Guerrero

"Wow, this is kind of unbelievable. Something like this hasn't
happened to me before, but what can you do. We will take the Pennzoil
car out in the practice session and learn as much as we can and make
the changes we need for the race. When we tested here this week, I
thought the car didn't have enough grip so obviously we are going to
have to correct that. All we can do is do our best, and then go on to
Phoenix."

John Barnes - Crew Chief

"We are going to take our time tonight installing the engine.
Normally we could do it in about an hour, but we will take four hours
tonight, just to make sure everything is done right. We are also going
to try and take what we learned in our testing earlier this week and
make some setup adjustments and have the Pennzoil car ready to race.
The practice session tomorrow is going to be critical to our race
performance. We knew going into this weekend we would be in tough, but
not this much tough. You can't win every race, but we aren't going to
let this get us down. I think in the long run we have the right
combination."
