IRL Trackside Report from Pikes Peak (06/28/97, a.m.)

28 June 1997

SATURDAY, JUNE 28
DAY 2

The #28 Bombardier Business Aircraft Grainger entry driven by Mark
Dismore was repaired Friday after his accident and was on pit road for
the start of practice this morning. The #5 Treadway Racing-WavePhore
Sprint PCS entry driven by Arie Luyendyk was repaired after his Friday
accident and was towed to pit road at 9:15 a.m.

The PDM Racing Team has had a unique challenge over the past few
weeks. The team has had to modify the cockpit of the #18 Klipsch
Overhead Door V-Line Earl's Performance Dallara/Aurora from John Paul
Jr. (6-4, 185) to Tyce Carlson (6-2, 220) to Billy Boat (5-7,
140). "From John to Tyce, we had to pour a different seat," said crew
chief John Pearson. "The pedals were about the same. We may have had
to move them up a little (because even though there's two inches
difference in height, they have roughly the same leg length). From
Tyce to Billy, we had to change the entire pedal box. On Thursday, we
moved him up as far as we could with the original pedal box. That
wasn't enough, so we had to move him up some more yesterday with the
other pedal box. All in all, it was probably 2 1/2-3 inches difference
from Tyce to Billy." Boat is using a spare seat that belongs to Scott
Sharp (5-8, 155). "We went from the tallest to the largest to the
smallest," said PDM crewman Buddy Urbanski.
