IMS Says Extended Ticket Ordering for 1998 is Over
2 July 1997
INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY NO LONGER ACCEPTING TICKET ORDERS FOR 1998 RACE For immediate release INDIANAPOLIS, July 2, 1997--The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has ceased accepting orders for tickets to the 1998 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, according to Peggy Swalls, vice president of IMS. "We are grateful to the public for the overwhelming response for tickets once again this year," said Swalls. "Demand for tickets has been very strong, both for renewals and for new ticket orders. We are sorry that we will be unable to fulfill all of the orders, but, as always, we will do our best to meet ticket upgrade requests, as well as for new orders." The IMS extended its deadline for reorders to June 30, following the two rain delays in May. Traditionally, renewal orders must be received one week after the race and the majority of race goers file their ticket applications within two days after the race, either at the race track ticket office, or by mail. Because of the confusion caused by rain delays, the deadline was extended this year as was done in similar circumstances in 1986. The Indianapolis 500 has the largest attendance of any single-day sporting event in the world.
