SCCA's Dan Greenwood Responds to IMSG's Termination of Merger Talks

3 July 1997

Englewood, CO-In response to the termination of the merger talks between IMSG (International Motorsports Group) and SCCA Pro-Racing, Ltd. President and CEO Dan Greenwood offered the following comments.

"Quite honestly, I was somewhat surprised with the decision. The negotiations were ongoing. I certainly wasn't of the opinion that we had reached a stalemate or were at the point of 'take it or leave it.'

Greenwood further commented, "SCCA Pro-Racing has a strong vision of the future and are very optimistic about our role in sports car racing. We've positioned SCCA Pro Racing and our respective series so as to maximize the potential within our niche of the marketplace. The termination of talks has little or no bearing on the direction we're headed. At the same time, we're disappointed with the International Motor Sports Group's decision to discontinue talks because we were of the opinion that our two entities working together to unify North American sports car racing could have had a tremendous benefit to promoters, race teams, and particularly motorsports fans. Hopefully, SCCA Pro-Racing and IMSG can revisit the issue at some future date because the unification of sports car racing is the right thing to do. I'm sure that IMSG's decision to terminate talks will not have an impact on our two remaining co-sanctioned week-ends at Mosport Park and Pikes Peak International Raceway."

Subsequent to the response from Dan Greenwood it should be noted that the SCCA is currently pursuing court action against Pro Sports Car (PSR) for trademark infringement on the use of the word "Sportscar."
