#99 Glenn Allen Luxaire Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Sears Auto Center 250 Race Report The Milwaukee Mile July 6, 1997 ALLEN CHARGES TO THE FRONT IN MILWAUKEE WEST ALLIS, WI - "This is what we needed to get back on track," said Luxaire driver Glenn Allen. Those words followed an action-packed Sears Auto Center 250 for Allen. Allen charged from a 29th starting spot all the way to 6th position in just 60 laps on Sunday. With new crew chief John Monsom on board, the team worked hard all weekend to overcome adversity and prepared a strong car for Allen to drive. There were a few doses of bad luck though, a loose oil line during first round qualifying forced the team to participate during the second round of time trials. During the second round, Allen laid down a lap that would have been good enough for the 7th starting spot if it came during the first round. With qualifying behind them, Allen began the race in 29th position. From lap one Allen began to move forward, picking off one car after another before settling into the top ten. The pit crew pulled off one of their best stops of the year to gain Allen two more positions under the first pit stop. From there Allen continued to chase the leaders while riding between 6th and 8th position. From lap 122 till the end the race would go green the whole way, forcing teams to pit under green flag conditions. These green flag pit stops led to what many believed was confusion in the scoring system. After all the pit stops some cars that Allen and others had lapped seemed to gain their lap back on the scoring monitors. Allen was able to fight his way back to an unofficial finish of 16th. These results are unofficial pending review by NASCAR, this review could possibly lead to a better finishing position for Allen. "We performed really well all weekend, John and the whole crew rolled up their sleeves and worked hard to give me a good car," Allen said. "Something doesn't seem right with the scoring, yet regardless, everyone knows we were there today and they saw what this team can do without a blow of bad luck." "It was great charging through the field like that," Allen said. "For once we were finally racing where we have the talent to race, I believe with John on board we will continue to run up front." Randy Lajoie won the race and regained control of the Busch Series points lead. Elliott Sadler and Hermie Sadler rounded out the top three positions. The Busch Series heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for an 8pm EST race this Saturday. Allen looks forward to returning to the half mile short track, in which he raced inside the top five for much of the day last year. By J&J Racing Public Relations
