NASCAR Fines Cale Yarborough Motorsports Crew Chief $50,000

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Pepsi 400 winning crew chief Tony Furr, has been fined $50,000 for carburetor mounting studs found on the #98 RCA Thunderbird which had been designed and constructed to move. The infraction was found during standard pre-race inspection. Officials confiscated the illegal studs and required the team to replace them with approved parts for the race.

The specific rule violated was Section 20, Rule 5.9, Article C in the 1997 NASCAR Winston Cup Rule Book which states: The carburetor mounting studs must remain in stock location.

According to the sanctioning body, the Cale Yarborough Motorsports entry passed a thorough post-race inspection following its trip to victory lane.
