14 July 1997
Oklahoma City, OK - Ron Norick, co-owner of L&R Motorsports, announced today that effective July 12, 1997, the team will temporarily suspend operations of the National Hockey League sponsored #90 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race truck driven by Lance Norick. "The NHL has a long-standing partnership with Dodge and due to that relationship it will be necessary to convert the team to Dodge equipment before the end of the season," stated Norick. "The conversion will require quite a bit of work, building engines and a whole new stable of race trucks, so we will have to take a hiatus from racing to put the program together." Ed Horne, NHL Group Vice President, Marketing added his support of the program which was designed to promote the NHL through NASCAR, "The program has been even more successful than we could have anticipated. We have been extremely happy with the response we've received from existing NHL fans that are NASCAR fans -- they're glad we're here -- and we continue to be impressed with the opportunities we have had to expose the NHL to new and potential fans." Norick continued, "It's better to take a step back now, so that L & R Motorsports is prepared to run a full schedule competitively in '98." L&R Motorsports will compete at select venues for the duration of the 1997 the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. L&R Motorsports is a father and son team, co-owned by Ron Norick, currently serving his third term as the Mayor of Oklahoma City, and Lance Norick, who owns and operates his own business as a building contractor for light commercial and custom homes, in addition to his duties as driver for L&R Motorsports. ###
