Walker Evans Racing Report: Miller Scores 7th Top Ten Finish in Colorado 250

22 July 1997

7th Top-10 of Season for Butch Miller/Walker Evans Racing Team

Mooresville, NC (July 21, 1997) -- Driver Butch Miller broke the curse
that has been plaguing the Walker Evans Racing Team lately with his
10th place finish for the #20 Orleans Hotel & Casino Chevrolet in the
Colorado 250. "This 10th place is the best finish we've had in the
past seven races," said Miller. "I was wondering when we were going
to get that monkey off our back. We had a great truck this week-
there was only one little tiny thing wrong with it, and we just
couldn't identify it at the race track. When we brought the truck
back to the shop and tore it down, we found what was wrong with the
truck. It was just one of those things where you kick yourself
later."

Unbelievably, Miller's top-10 finish is his worst at Colorado National
Speedway. Miller won the inaugural Craftsman Truck Series event in
1995, and posted a runner-up finish in 1996. "We have a good luck
place in Colorado that I always take my wife, Donna, to the night
before the race. Last year, Walker and Phyllis (team owners Evans)
caught us there, so we all went together this year on Friday night.
Our good luck always came when someone else picked up the tab. If
Walker and Phyllis had bought dinner this time, we might have had a
top-5! I guess our next improvement in team performance is additional
sponsorship dollars- not so we can buy better equipment, but so that
Walker & Phyllis can pick up the dinner tabs! You know- Will Win For
Food!"

Up next for the #20 Walker Evans Racing Team is the Lund Look 275 in
Topeka, Kansas. "I wish they were still running the short course
there," said Miller. "It was my favorite road course. I'm not sure
about the longer course, but we're taking 'Old Faithful', our best
truck, we have absolutely the best motor to date from Kevin Kroyer at
Walker Evans' west coast facility, and we have all the parts on the
truck in the proper order. We'll do just fine in Topeka. If Walker &
Phyllis promise to buy the dinner, we might even get the pole!"

Walker Evans is still searching for additional sponsorship dollars for
the remainder of the 1997 season. The Orleans Hotel & Casino has been
the primary sponsor on the #20 Walker Evans Chevrolet on a
race-by-race basis for the majority of the season, but Evans has
instituted a regional race-by-race sponsorship package program for
upcoming races to supplement the sponsorship of The Orleans Hotel &
Casino. Please call (704) 664-6607 for sponsorship package pricing
and information.
