Bayer Aspirin/Alka-Seltzer to Sponsor Jones' 1998 BGN Team

29 July 1997

MADISON, IL - Bayer Corporation's Consumer Care Division officials announced that they will sponsor Roy "Buckshot" Jones and his NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division team beginning with the 1998 season.

The agreement is for next year with Bayer holding an option to continue sponsorship in 1999.

Jones is fifth in the series point standings and is currently in his second full season on the circuit. He has three top-five and ten top-ten finishes in 19 starts going into this weekend's Gateway 300. The driver from Tucker, GA, who turned 27 years old just two days ago, qualified tenth fastest for tomorrow's series inaugural event at Gateway International Raceway.

Bayer has sponsored defending Winston Cup champion Terry Labonte's limited-schedule Busch Series program for the past two years.

"This is our sixth year of sponsorship in the Busch Series and we've had a very successful track record" said Bayer's Consumer Care Division senior consumer promotions manager Jerry Mattimore. "It's very important to us to run the full schedule so we can take advantage of all 30 races, especially the new venues that have come up like this one (Gateway). We're pleased with the level of performance we've had."
