Robby Gordon Looking for Greener Pastures

13 August 1997

CHARLOTTE, NC -- "I think this year, as a driver, I took a hit. I need to build my reputation back up," said a somewhat disgusted Robby Gordon in a telephone interview today.

And with that Robby Gordon went on to say that he felt that going with a winning team is what Robby Gordon needs to do now. "I'm not difficult to work with," protested Gordon. "I just want the best (equipment) there is."

Gordon, who has struggled since his appearance on the Winston Cup circuit, then said that in order to get 'the best equipment' he may well be forced to leave Winston Cup.

So where does Gordon think his future is? In an acronym.... CART.

Gordon said that he has a deal pending with a team that is currently running the CART series but that the decision on whether a team would be added for him or if he'd just get the seat of the current entry is still open. An announcement is expected as soon as next week.

But Gordon, wanting to leave the door open a crack, said there might be a chance that he'd stay in Winston Cup. "There are two (Winston Cup) teams that I'd go with in a heart beat," said Gordon. "But I'd rather not say who they are."

Gordon added that other suitors have until the end of this week to make their intentions known.
