#6 Mark Martin, Valvoline/Cummins Ford Thunderbird NASCAR Winston Cup Series ITW DeVilbiss 400 Advance Michigan Speedway MARK MARTIN NOTES & QUOTES: ITW DEVILBISS 400 BROOKLYN, MI - Mark Martin has a big weekend ahead of him at Michigan Speedway. There is always a lot going on during a typical race weekend, but Michigan is especially challenging. Martin always feels the pressure to win, but more so in Michigan since it is considered Jack Roush's backyard. Roush Industries is based in nearby Livonia, Mich., and many of the employees come out to see all three Roush teams compete. in addition to racing, the drivers make hospitality appearances on Sunday morning, press conferences and sponsor commitments which leaves very little time for them. This weekend, Martin will be driving his Valvoline/Cummins Ford in Sunday's ITW DeVilbiss 400 and his Winn-Dixie Ford in Saturday's Detroit Gasket 200 Busch Series race. Racing is easy for Martin, but he also is attending a charity function Thursday evening, a Roush function on Friday evening and will visit four different hospitality areas Sunday morning, as well as press conference to announce the release of his biography. "Many times racing is it easiest part of the weekend," Martin said. "It's the only time people are not pulling you in a hundred different directions. I enjoy getting the opportunity to meet the fans, sponsors and Roush's employees, but it can get overwhelming. It's just part of the amazing growth this sport has seen over the past few years." The sport continues to grow, and so do the demands on the drivers' time. In a typical week. Martin spends three days at his home in Daytona Beach, Fla. and four days at the track. One of his three "off' days is usually spent at the race shop in Liberty, N.C. and throughout the other two days, Martin does phone interviews, signs fan mail and attends to his personal business. "There isn't much time for myself," Martin said "1 try to spend as much time as possible with my family when I'm home and I'm lucky to be able to take them with me to many of the races. As many demands as there are, it all seems worthwhile when you're celebrating in victory lane."
