Cars 'n' Stars: John Zorro Delorean Resurfaces, Ford to Spread Around Formula V-10 Motors, Prowler to come in Mellow Yellow

John Delorean of Delorean gull wing sports car fame has emerged from obscurity and is planning new cars with aero space technology including a mini sport ute, a roadster, and another gull wing sportster that will go 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Last/this F-1 race season, Jackie Stewarts team was the only team receiving the "hot" Ford factory V-10 power plants. For 1998 Ford intends to supply two more teams, but hasn't said which ones.

The leading seller in the Mazda line is the 626, which for 1998 it will be their only U.S. made car. Their "conquest" sales targets are VW Jetta, Protege, Altima, and Camry owners.

Brett Bodine has been struggling with finances all through 1997, but comes ProSportsCar assn owner Andy Evans to the rescue. Evans purchased one-half of the team, bailing out Bodine. It will now be called Scandia/Bodine racing.

Though Chrysler has announced that all the 1997-7 Plymouth Prowlers will come in any color you want, as long as it is purple, they now are leaning toward offering the $40,000 two-seater in mellow yellow.

Ford race king Jack Roush, it has now been confirmed, will build a Pontiac engine for the No. 97 John Deere for driver Chad Little.

Alex Zanardi may be THE man to beat in CART, but after the Toronto race, a 22 year old Canadian ace had words with Alex re their bumping incident. Zanardi's Target team mate Jimmy Vasser will host the Laguna Seca Golf Classic the week before the Laguna Seca race. Swift Engineering will build chassis for two more CART teams in 1998 in addition to Newman-Haas.

Hershel McGriff Jr., son of racing legend HM Sr., won his fourth race at Portand Speedway last week. Late model stocks.

The Lincoln div backed Automotive Fine Arts Council reception on the 18th green at Pebble Beach, CA, the Lodge, last Saturday was a very swanky affair. Even Ford CEO Alex Trotman attended. People milled around, consumed fancy hors d'oeuvres, sipped wine, and admired great automotive paintings. Just 30-40 yards from the fête, golfers were hacking away, and one Japanese gentleman clipped a lady party goer on the temple with his 7 iron drive. As people rushed to her aid, he walked past her, solemnly intent on finding his golf ball.

In the all-Shelby vintage car race, Stirling Moss' finish was recorded as an EXC. New one on us. It means he was "excused."
