NASCAR BGN Food City 250: Laps 1 - 15
22 August 1997
BRISTOL, TN - The drivers are in their cars and we are ready to go racing in Thunder Valley. Team Jones Racing (#50 Rawlings Pontiac) had originally withdrawn from tonight's Food City 250 after Larry Pearson wrecked just after completing his qualifying laps. Later car owner Bobby Jones reversed his position after borrowing a Chevrolet from Chris Diamond, who failed to qualify for the event. Diamond will start the race in place of Pearson and will move to the back of the field before the green flag. The field of 42 cars moves onto the track for three parade laps. Green flag! LaJoie gets a good jump and takes the lead in turn one. Jones moves into second. Jones and LaJoie are side-by-side down the backstretch but LaJoie maintains the advantage. Park loses spots as he gets hung on the high side. Lap 7: LaJoie, Jones, Earnhardt, Fedewa, Trickle, Buttke, McLaughlin, Sawyer, Hall Buckshot continues to hound LaJoie. Now Earnhardt, Jr. moves right up on Jones' back bumper. Trouble on the frontstretch...Mark Krogh, Shaw and Dillon are involved. Dillion has heavy frontend damage. Under Caution for the first time on lap 13.
