NASCAR Testing at Richmond International Raceway

RICHMOND, VA - Today marks the final day of testing at Richmond International Raceway for next weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Exide Batteries 400 and that NASCAR Busch Series Autolite Platinum 250. Hut Stricklin, Bobby Labonte, and Dick Trickle were on hand Monday to shake down their Winston Cup cup rides. That trio was joined by Michael Waltrip, Bobby Hamilton and Kyle Petty on Tuesday. Mike Bliss will debut his Jim-Smith owned Winston Cup car #02 today at the 0.750-mile track. Bliss plans to do double duty next weekend, attempting to qualify for both the Winston Cup and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races. On the Busch Series side of the garage, Jeff Burton, Danny Edwards, Jr., Greg Edwards, Lyndon Amick, Joe McCarthy and Jim Bown logged track time. Kyle Petty's #49 NWO Busch Series car is being put through its paces by Kyle's 17-year old son, Adam, who is entered in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car doubleheader scheduled for November 1 at RIR. As of Tuesday, Aug. 26, Richmond International Raceway had received 48 entries for next Thursday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Virginia is for Lovers 200. Sixty entry blanks have been received for the Busch Series Autolite Platinum 250 and 48 teams have signed up for Saturday's Winston Cup event. The postmark deadline was Monday, Aug. 25 so speedway officials are expecting to receive additional entries over the next few days. Tickets are still available for the Sept. 4 Truck event and the Sept. 5 Busch Series race and can be obtained by calling 804-345-7223 or visiting the RIR ticket office which is operating seven days a week due to demand for tickets.
