NASCAR Winston Cup Series Mountain Dew 500: Quotes from Pontiac Drivers

1 September 1997

DARLINGTON, SC - The following provided by Performance Marketing Group:

NASCAR Winston Cup Series
Pontiac Post-Race Quotes
Mountain Dew Southern 500
Darlington Raceway
August 31, 1997

CHAD LITTLE (#97 John Deere Grand Prix) - Started 37th, finished 11th - "I
feel pretty good about our run. We were really up and down all race long. The
car was never really right. We struggled with it all day long. It was really
loose. What's important, I guess, is that it ended on a strong note for us.
That's what we needed. Our last two sets of tires were really good and that
helped a lot. But the car was off. We just need to keep working on getting it
better."

BOBBY HAMILTON (#43 STP Grand Prix) - Started 40th, finished 20th - "Same old
deal for us. No luck. We had a flat tire about 100 laps into the race and got
a lap down. We probably had a car that was capable of finishing anywhere from
19th to 15th if that hadn't happened."

LANCE HOOPER (#1 R&L Carriers Grand Prix) - Started 41st, finished 35th -
Hooper was involved in a two-car accident on lap 179. - "I'm fine, but my
pride is a little hurt. I didn't qualify good, and that set us back. We were
kind of holding our own and the 75 (Rick Mast) car spun in front of me. My
spotter said to go low, and I did what he said and went low. But he hit the
wall and slid down the track and got into me."
