Chevrolet Post-Race Quotes
Mountain Dew Southern 500
Darlington Raceway
August 31, 1997

TERRY LABONTE (#5 Kellogg's Monte Carlo) Started 17th, finished 6th - "The 10
car (Ricky Rudd) got up under me and I just couldn't beat him back to the
line. He was catching me a little bit and I was OK until I caught some
lapped car in front of me about 50 laps down in front of me on the race
track. I lost just enough and Rudd got me for fifth. We worked on the car
all day long. We were loose at the start and tight toward the end. We just
chased it all day."

MIKE SKINNER (#31 Lowe's Monte Carlo) - Started 33rd, finished 36th -
Skinner was involved in an accident on lap 134 - "We got tagged from behind
again. I guess we'll just have to start tagging some ourselves."

STERLING MARLIN (#4 Kodak Gold Film Monte Carlo) - Started 9th, finished 40th
- "This is one of my favorite tracks. I really enjoy racing here. Something
happened to the engine again. We were coming off of turn two and it popped.
I went on seven cylinders and it got worse. We decided to park it. It's a
one-lane track and we got out of the way. They need all the room they can
get."

KEN SCHRADER (#33 Skoal Bandit Monte Carlo) - Started 5th, finished 10th -
"That was another top-10 finish. We lost all our time on the very first run
and then we were good. We were big-time loose at first, but we got it working
better."

JEFF PURVIS (#12 Opryland Monte Carlo) - Started 22nd, finished 38th - Purvis
was involved in a multi-car accident on lap 119. - "We got a little loose
getting into three and four and that was nobody's fault but my own. It jumped
on the rear brakes a little bit harder than it did the front. It hit the
wall. I don't know if it broke a brake caliper or what. When I touched the
brakes getting into the corner, it just slammed the wall. I hate it. This
team has really been working hard, and I think we've got something here. The
car was fast. We'll just have to come back and try again."
