Richard Childress Racing and Lowe's Hardware Renew Contract with Mike Skinner
2 September 1997
DARLINGTON, SC -- Richard Childress Racing and Lowe's Hardware have announced that they have renewed their contract with Mike Skinner for the 1998 racing season. Richard Childress, speaking about the deal said, "We have been extremely pleased with Mike and the entire Lowe's team and we are looking forward to to a very successful 1998 season." Skinner started with Childress in 1995 as driver of the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet in the Craftsman Truck series. Skinner went on to win the Truck series inaugural championship. In 1997 Skinner graduated to the Winston Cup series. Skinner started his rookie season by winning the pole for the Daytona 500. The season hasn't been a smooth one and rumors swirled that there may be a change of drivers for the #31 Winston Cup entry. This announcement should, once and for all, stop that kind of talk. Skinner said of his rookie year, "This season hasn't gone as smooth as I would have liked. But Richard (Childress) told me what to expect, a lot of ups and downs. That certainly has been the case."
