Bryant Wins NASCAR WRS Championship
8 September 1997
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Navarre, FL - Tim Bryant, 40 year old driver of the Bianchi Furniture/Harrington Electrical Contractors/Bryant Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo has clinched the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Championship for 1997 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. After two seasons of finishing the championship in second place, Bryant was able to use consistent finishes to remain in the points lead for most of the season. "This was our goal for this season," Bryant said. "We have been focused on this championship all year and now that we have finally won it we can breathe again and begin to look at the future. I owe this to my sponsor's Bianchi Furniture and Harrington Electrical for getting us to this point and would especially like to thank my mother who has been at every race and provided the moral support for the team." Bryant returned to racing in 1992 after a nine year hiatus only to have his entire transporter, car and equipment burn to the ground on the way to a race in Florida. Undaunted, Bryant drove for another owner in 1992 and 1993 before he was able to make a serious full time run at the Five Flags Championship in 1994. That first year he finished a credible tenth in the final points standings and then the next two years he was runner-up to the track champion. The arrival of the NASCAR Winston Racing Series sanction for the track provided the impetus to make yet another run at the top spot and this time the Bryant Motorsports entry was able to succeed and capture the first ever NWRS title at Five Flags Speedway. "My crew has done a super job all year from Crew Chief Randy Bryant on down," Bryant continued. " All the guys and the wives have really been great and have been able to get the car ready and to the track when it looked like we were not going to make it." The Bryant Motorsports crew led by Randy Bryant includes Bill Bryant, Rick Bryant, Gary Sirdinia, Dale Brazel, Paul LaCourse, Randy Castro, Jerry Glenn, Kay Bryant, Tricia Bryant and Tim's mother Ginny Bryant. The Bryant Motorsports team has not had an opportunity to consider the future plans but will run the 30th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway on December 6th. 1998 plans have not been finalized.
