FIELD: 30 cars. Starting positions 1-26 will be determined by time trials (2 
laps). Positions 27-30 will be available to any of the top 30 eligible 
drivers in the current 1997 NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Championship point 
standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one of the 
original 26 starting positions. If a starting position(s) remains unfilled, 
then that starting position(s) will become available to the next eligible car 
from the qualifying procedure for the event.

THE RACE: The Roger Holdeman Memorial/28th Annual Winchester 400 is the 
first of two 400-lap events within less than a month, and this particular 
event is a Fall classic in Indiana. This event is a test for driver and 
machine with high speeds and high banks taking their toll by the time the 
checkered flag waves.

 RECORDS: Track Qual. Record: Wayne Anderson, Wildwood, FL, 
                              Chevrolet, 15.677 secs., 114.817 mph, 9/29/96

          Fastest Avg. Speed (400 lap): Mike Cope, Pinellas Park, FL, 
                                        Oldsmobile, 
                                        2 hours, 22 min, 59 sec, 83.296 mph, 
                                        10/3/93

 1996 REVIEW: For the three previous events Mike Cope practically owned the 
event winning all three events from 1993 through 1995. In 1996 Cope finished 
as the runner-up, failing to conquer regional racer Scot Walters. Louisville, 
KY's Walters notched his first career NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series win, and 
it was a popular win as well.  Rounding out the top five were eventual 1996 
Port City Racing Rookie of the Year Steven Christian, Ron Barfield and Brian 
Rievley.

 NOTES OF INTEREST: - An overflow field of entrants are expected to contest 
for the 30 available starting positions in this event, which carries a 
minimum winner's purse of $10,000.
 
 - A large fan turnout can also be expected with many cheering on the current 
points leader Jeff Fultz. Fultz hails from nearby Milford, OH while his 
team's base is nearly as close with a headquarters of Muncie, IN.

 STAT OF THE WEEK: Since 1993 Scot Walters has never finished worse than 
fifth in this event, ultimately winning in 1996.
