Stavola Brothers to Run Chevy cars for 1998 Winston Cup Season

MARTINSVILLE, VA - The Stavola Brothers Race team will swap their blue oval for a red bow-tie beginning with the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup season.

The Stavola Brothers first got involved in Winston Cup racing in 1983, fielding Buicks and competing part-time on the circuit. After another limited schedule in 1984, they went full-time racing in the series in 1985. The team switched from Buick for Ford beginning with the 1992 season.

"My brother, Mickey Stavola, and I are very happy to announce that we will be working with Chevrolet next season," said team co-owner Billy Stavola. "We want to thank everyone at Ford for their support and commitment over the years. It was a business decision to team up with Chevrolet next year and we all feel that it is in our best interest to work with Chevrolet right now."

The engine program will be headed up by Peter Guild, owner of Pro Motors, who has been providing Ford power to several teams over the last five years.

"Business on the Winston Cup circuit is growing exponentially," explained Guild. "To remain a major engine source, an engine company must be on top of everything technologically. By knowing the inner workings of both Ford and Chevrolet engines, it can enhance our knowledge about both."

Driver Hut Stricklin and crew chief Bill Ingle will remain with the Harrisburg, NC-based team for 1998.
