TEAM SABCO, GORDON AGREE TO SPLIT EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY MOORESVILLE, NC (September 30, 1997) - It was announced today that Team SABCO and driver Robby Gordon have mutually agreed to part company effective immediately. The decision was made so that each could better concentrate on preparation for the forthcoming 1998 racing season. Team SABCO owner and president, Felix Sabates, stated that he and Gordon both agreed that ending the relationship at this date and on an amicable note would be "in the best interests of both parties." He wished the driver well in his future racing endeavors. Gordon, 28, started 20 races for Team SABCO in 1997, his top performance being a fourth-place finish on Aug. 10 at Watkins Glen, NY. His best start was a pole for the March 9 Primestar 500 at Atlanta. Elliott Sadler, a full-time NASCAR Grand National Series driver for Diamond Ridge Motorsports, has been named to the No. 40 Original Coors/Coors Light Chevrolet Monte Carlo for this weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Sadler, 22, currently ranks fifth in Grand National Series points. So far this year Sadler has earned three wins, four poles, six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes with victories coming at Nazareth, PA, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Madison, IL. Team SABCO has scheduled an 11:45 am press conference for Sat, Oct. 4 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield media center to introduce a new driver for the No. 40 Original Coors/Coors Light Monte Carlo for the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup season.
