Gary DeHart Resigns as Team Manager for Hendricks Motorsports

1 October 1997

HARRISBURG, NC - Gary DeHart has resigned from his position as team manager of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Kellogg's team effective immediately. DeHart plans to take a brief leave of absence before returning to an alternate position with the team.

The High Point, NC native, who joined the Hendrick Motorsports organization in August 1986, led driver Terry Labonte to his second NASCAR Winston Cup championship last season.

Hendrick Motorsports vice president and general manager Jimmy Johnson cited personal reasons for DeHart's decision.

"Gary has been under a great deal of stress, and we support him in his decision and feel it is in everyone's best interest for him to assume another role," said Johnson. "He has been a talented and valued member of the Hendrick Motorsports family for a long time."

Randy Dorton and Eddie Dickerson will share DeHart's duties on an interim basis until a replacement is named.
