Jeff Burton and Jim Bown Crash in Busch Practice

3 October 1997

CONCORD, NC - Jeff Burton and Jim Bown were involved in an accident in turn four during the final Busch Series practice this afternoon which heavily damaged both cars but left their drivers uninjured.

"I had a tire going down in (turn) three and I knew it," explained Bown, "but I couldn't get it slowed down enough to keep from spinning. It was the left-rear tire. I spun and there was nothing Jeff could do. I'm going over there right now and apologize to him for the deal."

The No. 51 Barefoots/Rose Auto team has not yet decided whether to go to a back-up car. Bown indicated that they liked the primary so much better that they may decide to rebuild it. If Bown does opt to start a back-up car he will be forced to give up his 6th place starting position in Saturday's All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300.

Burton's Roush Racing Track Gear Ford team has already decided to return to their shop to get another car. "Yeah, I'm okay," said Burton. "He just spun in front of me, off four, and I got into him. We've got a back up car on the truck, but we don't like it." Burton had qualified 5th for this weekend's event.
