Sterling Marlin to Drive SABCO's #40 Coors Light Winston Cup Car
5 October 1997
CONCORD, NC - It was one of the worst kept secrets in the NASCAR Winston Cup garage but Team SABCO made it official at Charlotte Motor Speedway today. Sterling Marlin will take over as the driver of the No. 40 Coors Light Chevrolet for the the 1998 season. Marlin will be reunited with Tony Glover, who has been promoted from crew chief to team manager and will be responsible for all Team SABCO operations but will be working in Sterling's pit on race days. Marlin and Glover spent three years together at Morgan-McClure Racing and were the winning driver/crew chief combination for the Daytona 500 in 1994 and 1995. "When we hired Tony last year, I never dreamed of the opportunity for Team SABCO and Coors to have Sterling Marlin driving for us," said team owner Felix Sabates. "Sterling is a winner. More important, Sterling is a nice person. I want everybody to get along on our team, and I think that was the missing link we had."
