Starting positions 1-28 will be determined by time trials (2 laps). Positions 29-32 will be available to any of the top 30 eligible drivers in the current 1997 NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Championship point standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one of the original starting positions. Positions 33-36 will be available to the top two finishers in each of two last chance qualifying races who elect to transfer to the All American 400. Positions 37-38 will be available to the next two fastest qualifiers from time trials who did not make the All American 400 through either time trials or the last chance races. Darlington, SC's Hal Goodson leads Milford, OH's Jeff Fultz by a mere 10 points with two races left on the '97 schedule. Conyers, GA's Ron Young trails leader Goodson by 86 points.
