FONTANA, CA - "At this race last year I drove a Pontiac for the first time
and sat on the pole. After that day I decided to make the switch to Pontiacs
for the '97 season. As I reflect on this year, I know I made the right
decision." --Buckshot Jones, driver of the #00 Aquafresh Pontiac
- The #00 Aquafresh Racing Pontiac Grand Prix that will compete in the
"ACDelco 200" is the same car that competed in the Dura-Lube 200 at Darlington
Raceway in August. Early in that race, Jones could not avoid an accident and
completed the race running in 32nd position.
- At the 1996 ACDelco 200 at North Carolina Motor Speedway, Buckshot Jones
claimed the pole position with a lap of 24.339 seconds and a speed of 150.425
mph.
- During the 1996 ACDelco 200, Jones suffered three cracked ribs and a
broken toe after hitting the wall on lap 108.
- "We perform well at Rockingham and I like the track a lot," said Jones.
"We were on the pole last year, but we missed the race setup. At Rockingham
you really wear your tires down, so getting the car to handle well is the key
to being successful. This track is not about horsepower, but getting the car
to handle in the turns."
